The Secret to Success?
Sounds too much like a job.
“They” say the secret to success on these online platforms is to pump out a steady stream of content on a scheduled basis regardless of what is going on in your life, how you feel, or whether it’s actually any good. “They” say if you’re only publishing content on an intermittent basis you’ll never build any kind of a following because no one will feel compelled to keep up with what you’re putting out. “They” say in order to be successful you must concentrate on producing content in one specific niche only. You must focus your efforts or you will never connect with your audience. I suppose if you truly desire to make a living doing it, it is what you must do.
I write when I have something to say. Sometimes, that something might only be interesting to me. Most of my online existence these days is as a curator of interesting things on Twitter. I have an incoming feed of newsworthy content from my varied interests and I tweet and retweet from those pieces. Prior to becoming more active on Twitter, I was highly active on Google+. Contrary to what tech writers would have you believe, there was a thriving community of folks on Google+. The fact that those tech writers weren’t part of that thriving community did not surprise me.
