The Bidet Upgrade
After a little over a year with a basic bidet, it was time for an upgrade.
If you remember my original piece about how a bidet will change your life, you will know I’m a major fan of this toilet technology, and I wish bidets could be found in broader use throughout the United States. We’re well beyond the original reason the bidet was never widely adopted here, and it’s time to join the rest of the bidet-using world. The toilet paper shortages of the COVID-19 pandemic made a lot of people more aware of bidet technology.
About a month ago, my wife and I decided to upgrade from our basic bidet to a more advanced model. The first bidet, a Genie Ultrathin, served us well, especially after removing the flow restrictor, but we knew better bidet technology existed. We opted to get a Toto C5 Washlet.
Toto is the leading brand of bidet toilets worldwide. The Toto C5 Washlet is a complete toilet seat with an integrated bidet, unlike the Genie Ultrathin, which attaches under your existing toilet seat. The C5 installs easily and practically without tools if your plumbing is modern. One person can easily do it, but installation would be a little quicker if a helper is available. Since installation involves replacing the entire toilet seat, it’s a good idea to clean the toilet before commencing with installation.
