Severance: “Marshmallows are for team players…” (s02e04)
Some of you may be quietly yearning to learn more
I can’t lie; I initially thought this episode would be a severance chip-induced fever dream. I was wrong. Let’s cross the ice and get into spoilers. If you haven’t watched the episode yet, watch it and return for the discussion.
Talk about a cold open. Outie Irving transitions into innie Irving and realizes that he’s standing in the middle of a frozen lake. At least he’s dressed for the occasion in attire suitable for a Russian winter. He’s soon greeted by Mark S, Helly R(?), and Dylan G, as they relate coming to sudden awareness outdoors. Dylan G has the best assessment of the situation. They soon discover a CRT-type TV and DVD player (but where’s the power coming from?) on a portable cart and a highly-edited video of Milchick explaining that they are here for an “Outdoor Retreat and Team Building Occurrence. (ORTBO)” In other words, it’s one of those corporate team-building experiences meant to facilitate team cohesion. Well, they don’t end up so cohesive after this two-day experience, but more on that in a bit.
