Severance: “I think you’ve overestimated your contributions…” (s02e03)
Why don’t we reset?
The third episode of Season 2 hits hard. You know I will talk about spoilers, so if you haven’t watched the episode yet, go watch it and come back.
The episode opens with a long shot of Harmony Cobel’s VW Rabbit parked alongside the road in a snowy wasteland. We cut to the vehicle interior, and it’s clear she has slept in her car for an undetermined amount of time. The car isn’t running, and she’s wearing mittens, so I assume she was on a long drive away from the city of Kier and had stopped to nap. Where was she intending to go? In a later scene, she reaches a road sign that says Salt’s Neck is 238 miles away. She glances over at the breathing tube that is in the passenger seat. We still don’t know who this breathing tube belongs to, but it’s important to her. Did it belong to her mother? She doesn’t end up going to Salt’s Neck, as she decides to turn the car around and return to Kier. More on that later.
Mark Scout opens the episode trying to figure out a way to get a message to his innie. We see him use a 1970s-era LED watch to time how long it takes for him to get across the Lumon parking lot, get cleared to enter, change clothes, and get in the elevator. Armed with an estimate of this timing, we will see his plan later. It’s not the best plan, but it…
