No, I Didn’t Need to Panic Over Toilet Tissue

So, as COVID-19 caused everyone to clear the store shelves of toilet tissue, I was able to sit back knowing I had plenty of toilet tissue. Why? My dad has always taught me to never run out of 4 essential household items, toilet tissue, toothpaste, paper towels, and soap. Having been brought up with this thinking, I have always been conscious of how much of each I have on hand and the rate at which each gets consumed. For example, I know my household uses 4.1 rolls of toilet tissue each week. We use 3.4 bars of soap each month. These aren’t guesses, these are based on actual measurements. When possible, I like to have a 6-month supply of the essentials. I’m not a prepper but I believe in being prepared.

I don’t understand running out of toilet tissue for the entire household. Running out of money is one thing, but not planning ahead is another. Do you know the rate of consumption for your household or do you just buy more when you think your supply is running low? Do you have extra in case someone in your home is sick or do you just hope for the best-case scenario of not running out? One person I know was surprised to find her family had consumed 4 rolls of tissue in a day. When I asked what the normal rate of consumption was for her household consisting of 3 adults and 2 teens, she didn’t know. I asked when she normally bought toilet tissue and she said when only…
