A Quick Experiment in Social Media
From time to time, I like to conduct small experiments. The data collected is usually for personal use and not subject to academic rigor. The other day, I decided to see which social media platform gives me the most interaction when I post. The platforms chosen were X (formerly known as Twitter), CounterSocial, Threads, and Bluesky. I made the same post to each platform at the same time of day (within 5 minutes) and set the timer going.
For my experiment, I wanted to see which platform gave me the quickest reaction (like, comment, or reshare) and how many reactions my post received within an hour. Of relevance for the comparison is my follower count on each platform. For X, I supposedly have 998 followers. On CounterSocial (CoSo), I have 58 followers. On Threads, I have 60 followers. On Bluesky, I have 61 followers. Based on the follower count, you’d think I’d get the best results from X for anything I post.
My first response to my post came from CounterSocial, in the form of a like and a reply, within 15 minutes. The second response came from Threads, in the form of a reply, within 20 minutes. At the 30-minute mark, I had additional likes and replies from CounterSocial and Threads, but nothing from X or Bluesky. After an hour, I had 6 replies on CounterSocial, along with 10 likes, with 4 replies and 4 likes on Threads. After an hour, I still had nothing on…
